Monday Mural - Recreation By The Lake

Andy | Monday, June 25, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Artist: Tony Johnson, Oshawa, Ontario
The Lake Ontario waterfront was a favourite gathering spot during the summer. Streetcars running north and south on Simcoe Street were a popular means of getting to the waterfront. Barnhardt's Pavilion was famous throughout Oshawa and beyond for its Friday night dances. The merry-go-round, called "The Ocean Wave", was a fixture at the Lake. I'm linking to Monday Mural.

There is a flower, a little flower
With silver crest and golden eye,
That welcomes every changing hour,
And weathers every sky. - James Montgomery

Niagara-On-The-Lake - Theatre

Andy | Friday, June 15, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Niagara-On-The-Lake is a Canadian town located in Southern Ontario where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario. The Royal George Theatre is one of the gems that you will find there. Acording to their web page The Royal George presents a modest exterior, but inside it’s all Edwardian gilt mouldings, red walls and golden lions! This 328-seat theatre was built as a vaudeville house to entertain the troops during World War I and now hosts the Shaw Festival’s repertory theatre productions.

Creepy Vine

Andy | Friday, June 08, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Is it just me or has anyone else notice how this vine is spreading in Ontario? Virginia Creeper Vine is not an invasive plant but it certainly can be considered aggressive. The vines can reach at least 50 feet in length. It can climb just about any vertical surface: trees, telephone poles, fences and walls. Left unchecked, Virginia creeper vines have the potential to overwhelm their host tree, but they are less of a problem than kudzu or wild grapevine.
