Monday Mural - Recreation By The Lake

Artist: Tony Johnson, Oshawa, Ontario
The Lake Ontario waterfront was a favourite gathering spot during the summer. Streetcars running north and south on Simcoe Street were a popular means of getting to the waterfront. Barnhardt's Pavilion was famous throughout Oshawa and beyond for its Friday night dances. The merry-go-round, called "The Ocean Wave", was a fixture at the Lake. I'm linking to Monday Mural.

  1. Look at the clothes they are wearing to the beach!
I hope it wasn't as hot then as it was last week.

  2. It is a very interesting mural - lots to see here! Funny seeing the people lounging in the sand in their dress clothes...not the typical beach attire, I'm thinking. So much detail - just wonderful!

  3. I laugh seeing VioletSky's comment... it was my thought exactly! And that Ocean Wave merry-go-round looks deadly! Where are the kids? Cool addition to the meme, Andy.

  4. Ah, a sweet peek into the past. Your mural is an interesting history lesson. That merry-go-round is fascinating. Never seen anything like it. But I'm with Violet, how could people really enjoy the seaside having to be dressed like that? Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.

  7. Imagine dressing up like that to go to the beach. The merry-go-round looks a bit spooky - you would have to make sure it was balanced or it could be quite the ride!

  8. On a day like today, I wouldn't be outside or on a beach in that much clothing.
