Monday Murals - Oshawa's Famous "Generals"

Andy | Monday, November 12, 2012 | Best Blogger Tips

Artist: Paul Ygartua, of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Oshawa Generals Major Junior Hockey franchise was established for the 1937-38 season and immediately became a hockey powerhouse by winning seven consecutive Ontario championships through to 1944. The team has won five additional Ontario titles since then and has been the Memorial Cup champion four times, in 1939, 1940, 1944, and 1990. Featured are well-known Oshawa Generals stars of the past, including Billy Taylor, Bobby Orr, Terry O'Reilly and Eric Lindros. I'm linking to Monday Mural.

  1. That was quite a drought between '44 and '90.
I didn't now that Bobby Orr was once one of them.

  2. This is a cool mural...my best friend in high school was so 'in love' with Bobby Orr.

  3. What impresses me the most is how good the faces are. A face is hard to draw, at any size, but these are so large and so many of them, truly done well.

  4. This is a well designed mural. Ygartua was quite deft at presenting 17 figures in a way that really engages the eye. Lots of movement and emotional intensity. Sorry to say, the only name that rings a bell is Bobby Orr. Shows my lack of sports literacy. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.

  5. That is a nice mural! Excellent art work. I remember when this all started. It was quite a deal.

Nah, I'm old but I'm not old enough to remember that!

  9. That's well done for faces are difficult to do on such a large scale.
