At the age of 30 years, Ginetta, the oldest giraffe in a Canadian zoo, died on the afternoon of Monday, January 21, 2014. She was born at the Toronto Zoo in 1983 and spent her entire life there. She celebrated her 30th birthday last August. Unfortunately I don't know if this is Ginetta in this photo... but it is one of the giraffes at the Toronto Zoo that I photographed in October 2010. I just wanted to pay a little tribute to the old gal.

So so sad to lose a loved one. I bet her handlers are grieving her passing.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how old giraffes usually live in the wild. Hmmm. I need to Google that!
ReplyDeleteOh that is sad. Is that a good age for a giraffe or not? Must admit I have no idea how long they can expect to live
